All of us feel a bit like pincushions after so many jabs over the last few years. It’s hard to roll up our sleeves again. Hard as it is we will all be having our annual flu vaccine and we very much recommend the annual flu vaccine, particularly for those over 65, children 6 months to 5 years, pregnant women and those with underlying medical conditions.
Who gets the flu vaccine for free
- children aged 6 months to less than 5 years. For more information WHY DOES MY CHILD NEED A FLU SHOT. Children under 9 getting the influenza vaccine for the first time need 2 doses, 4 weeks apart. This strengthens the immune response to all vaccine strains.
- all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and over
- people aged 6 months and over with certain medical conditions that increase their chance of severe influenza and its complications. Conditions include heart or lung disease, diabetes, kidney disease, neurological conditions and anyone immunocompromised
- pregnant women (at any stage during pregnancy)
- people aged 65 years and over.
If you don’t qualify for a free vaccine we still recommend the flu vaccine. Let us know when you book in that you don’t qualify for a free vaccine and we can either organise a script or we can order the vaccine in. The cost is usually around $20
IF ALL YOU COME IN FOR IS A FLU VACCINE, THE CONSULT IS BULKBILLED
If you want your COVID booster at the same time just book in for both and the consult is bulkbilled.
