The following groups are at higher risk of complications from influenza and the government is still providing free flu vaccines:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people 6 months and over
- children 6 months to 5 years of age
- People with medical conditions including
- heart problems
- lung problems including asthma
- diabetes or kidney or liver disease
- multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries, and seizure disorders
- impaired immunity, including HIV, malignancy and chronic steroid use
- pregnant women (influenza vaccine can be given at any stage of pregnancy)
- people aged 65 years and over (vaccine that is specifically designed to produce a higher immune response is available for this group).
If you are due for your covid booster you can have the flu vaccine and covid vaccine on the same day.
